It's about relationships
by Ozz on 07/26/18
* Willie B Said it best: The
NMSF Karaoke Showcase Season is more than a competition, it’s about
relationships.
As I went home last Thursday night after Fiestas:
I am blown away every time that we do one of
these auditions when I hear the singers that sing. I am not only talking about the contestants but also the regular singers.
And then we have people there that have
already qualified for the fair that are here to support everyone and build up those attempting to qualify because that’s what this is all
about. The NMSF Karaoke Season is all about creating relationships and lasting friendships. It’s
about bringing everybody together that has the same hobby and we have fun doing
it.
So I would like to say to all the ones that qualified that night your job is to support those that don’t make it that night. For those of you that have already qualified it’s your job to help the ones that just made it get on board and it's also your job to build up the ones that
didn’t make it yet. To those of you that have participated and shown your support, all
I can say is that this is an amazing group of people and it is wonderful that we can bring this many people together who enjoy to sing and can sing with their whole hearts. That being said, come on out tomorrow night and show your support!

MY "FAVOR-EIGHT"
I get asked all the time, "where is your favorite place to go". I can't pick just one. I like them all.....well almost. Some places I like because of the KJ, or the Sound, or the Stage.....so here are my favorite eight places right now:
Effingbar
Barley Room
Blackbird
Sneakerz
Graham Central Station
Louie's
Cowgirl
Speakeasy
Once a month Howling Coyote pulls out all the stops and brings the 40 foot stage and concert auditorium to life in San Felipe. Next show, Friday, January 31st from 8pm-midnight...Click on the header for more information!

LIVE MIC MAKING MAJOR CHANGES!
Teles Edwell has been a KJ in Albuquerque as long as I can remember. I first met him at Sneakerz, he KJ'd for Boop for many many years between Sneakerz and Spectators. After a falling out with Boop he began his own business with a partner. First at Spectators, then Geckos, then Post 99 and 49 and his latest, Ned's. His crew included Felicia aka Live Mic 2 and Zero who was at Geckos and is no longer. His scheduled has changed a bit so here it is: Teles: Spectators on Friday's. Post 99 every other Wednesday. Ned's every Wednesday. He is need of another KJ for every other Wednesday, if you are interested contact him through Call Me Ozz. Felicia, aka LIVE MIC 2 can be found at Post 49 on Wednesdays, Geckos on Tuesday's and Spectators on Saturday's.
We have always known Ed's to be at Leisure Bowl. Well no more. Leisure Bowl was purchased by Holiday Bowl last year and they have been making a lot of changes over there. They have already installed new score machines, now they are working on the bar. It is now called Mr Z's @ Skidz Entertainment Center. They have upgraded their song selection and their sound system. You can find karaoke there 7 nights a week and comedy every other Sunday.
ED SOL HEADS TO ISLETA!!!!
If you don't know who Ed Sol is, you should really find out! Ed was the WORLD KARAOKE CHAMPION in 2010 and holds more local wins than any other singer I know. Not to mention the lead singer of BLUE SOL. He is also the KJ at Silva Lanes on some week nights. On Thursday, February 6th he will be launching solo at Isleta Casino. Say hello to him from 7:30-11:30pm.
ANOTHER NEW ONE AT SILVA LANES
OK Silva Lanes, you're driving us all nuts! So I went into Silva Lanes last Friday night, expecting to see the new girl Stephanie, but she is gone and now it's Corey, aka DJ Sexykinda. He is there on Friday and Saturday's. Silva Lanes has karaoke every night of the week.
SNEAKERZ-BANDS EVERY OTHER SATURDAY
You may remember Sneakerz as Senior Buckets. It was the place to go for live bands. Boop Karaoke has held Sneakerz on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday as long as I can remember, in fact Ozz was birthed there in 2008 with Becca Calloway. There used to be a huge karaoke crowd on Saturday nights, until they started doing UFC fights on Saturday nights. I watched the Saturday crowd die out. They couldn't understand why the karaoke community wouldn't come to the fight and then sing, or just wait till the fight was over! They have really struggled to regain Saturday nights with no avail, with the Saturday night competition, it would be hard, if not impossible. Beginning in February, they will be alternating karaoke on Saturday nights with live bands. Call before you go.
GALACTIC KARAOKE AT HOLIDAY BOWL
Did you know about this? I just found out! Holiday Bowl has Galactic Bowling and Karaoke on Thursday nights! They start when galactic bowling starts, about 9 or 10 and the go till they close! You sing from the lane you are bowing on! I gotta check this out, karaoke and bowling are my favorite things to do!
Almost everything I do on this site is because it is what singers ask for. It all started with the BARLEY ROOM KARAOKE CONTEST two and a half years ago. I started it as a place to post the results of the contest. I had met a lot of people during that time. After the contest I was gonna kill the site, but I was getting a lot of texts and calls from people wanting to know where to go sing. So I decided to put together a list of all the venues in the city that did karaoke on what night. I would also get things like, what songs do you sing? So I created my SONG LIST AND SET PAGE. I would get asked how I got into this, that’s when the WHO IS OZZ PAGE came along. Then I thought it would be cool to have a MEMBER’S CORNER. From there it just kept growing to what it is today.
I would always get asked. How is karaoke at so n so? Or what do you think of this place, or that place? What is your favorite place? So I began writing reviews after ever night that I went out. But that did not send the point across, so I began the report card. This was a black and white number system grading every KJ and Venue on the quality of sound, crowd, service and the KJ themselves. Everyone I would talk to about the results agreed with my observation 100%. Every time a KJ or Venue got a great score and review they loved me to death, but if they didn’t they would complain and feel that I was being biased or just didn’t like them. It is imperative for me to have the singers, the KJ’s and the venues all on my side in order for this to be effective.
I stopped doing the reviews once I built the VENUES PROFILE page. Here anyone can go to the venue profile and post their own comments. I personally read through them and if I ever see a comment that I feel is bogus or just trash talking I will remove it. The report card was removed and discontinued after a few KJ’s lost their jobs. I will continue to place my FAVORITE-EIGHTS in the newsletter, this has nothing to do with score or anything, it was simply my favorite stops last month, and it’s for me to know why.
I encourage all of you to put your comments in the venue profile page. I ask that even if it’s bad, keep it positive, but do be honest. Happy singing! See You Soon!
REVIEWS AND REPORTS CARDS ARE GONE!
If you are my friend on Facebook and followed Call Me Ozz as it has grown over the years, it’s no surprise to know that I am ready to take it to the next level and beyond. I did not start this website to ever become my livelihood but it is headed that way and in fact already supplements my income. There have been huge changes since it first began and I am sure there will be many more. My passion will always be karaoke make no mistake. All of the other sites here already and yet to come are things that I have always enjoyed but not nearly as much as karaoke.
Over the last couple of weeks I have been working very diligently on setting up the site for sponsorships, and that project is now complete. I am now actively looking for an investor or a silent partner so that I can hire an administrative assistant and an account rep. It takes about 20-30 per week just keep this thing accurate with information, my time is getting squeezed and having an admin assistant would help free that up as well as an account rep to handle and manage the clients. This would give the time I need to find the directors to expand the rest of the sites which are temporary pages at this time. It feels so awesome to think that by the end of this year, Call Me Ozz could realistically employ 18 people. The goal for 2015 would then be to go nationwide.
If you, or if you know someone who might be interested in becoming my silent partner or an investor, please feel free to CONTACT ME. I look forward to a very prosperous 2014 with you all!
DAD'S DINER IS NO MORE :(
Dad's Diner in Moriarty is closing it's doors. This is a very sad one to see go. This was a family owned and operated local restaurant that really catered to the families. They had family karaoke on Thursday nights and adult karaoke on Friday nights. This was on the Call Me Ozz Van run. Very sad to see it go.
GRAHAM IS 18-21 ON THURSDAYS!

3 CLUBS IN-3 NIGHTS OF KARAOKE
Leo's NIghtclub in the North Valley, on the corner of Candelaria and 12th Street has 3 clubs in and has karaoke in each club a different night of the week. You can find Allan Estrada (used to be at Lucky Lanes) in Leo's on Monday's, in the Speakeasy Lounge on Thursday's and in the $2 Bar n Friday's.
Graham Central Station is now 18-21 on Thursday nights. There is a $6 cover for them and the Country Bar and the Karaoke Bar are open. This is an idea I had thought of some time ago. Glad to see Graham is doing this.
DJ GLO TO DEBUT AT POST 69 ON FRIDAY
DJ Glo is to debut her night at the Post 69 on 4th on Friday from 7-11pm. DJ Glo is better known in the karaoke world as Gloria Chavez. She gets out to sing on a pretty regular basis. She has hosted gigs in Santa Fe, this will be her DJ Glo is to deb in Albuquerque.
